Day 16

My views on mainstream music:

I'm really quite disappointed in mainstream music these days. It's not that I dislike it because its popular, every one has their own taste, but what I dislike about it is its vulgarity. Has our culture really sunk that low to where we can't put out beautiful music anymore? Not even that, but that the beautiful music that is made is somehow pushed to the bottom and not the most listened to? The majority of "fun" songs that are made to be danced to are typically of the angry rap persuasion and there is typically a lot of disrespect toward women in that genre. There's a lot of, "shake that ass," and, "bitches and hoes" and these are the songs playing in clubs which are filled, majority-wise, by women. Where has the self-respect for women gone where music like that with its clearly distasteful messages is not only swept under the rug, but at the same time, put on display? What I think makes this music so popular is that no one else is putting out "dancey" songs, really. Back in the 50's and 60's the mainstream music was so much more about the music/telling a story and not trying to get the raunchiest message out there. So mainstream music these days? Hate it. Mainstream music back in the day? Wonderful.
